diabolo's axis : what to choose
diabolo axle benchmark![]() On the left side, a circus with "ultra-light" axle. On right, an "allround". The two are made in Teflon (white part) The axles depends on the diabolo. Henry's axles are not compatible with Babache one ... Normal axleThe axle which are already on diabolos are good for most purposes. We can name them "thin/small" axle in opposition with large ones that we will describe later. large axleThat's the first evolution of axle : instead of just a small ring for the string contact, this ring is much larger and allows to use fingers and stick much easily. The friction is far smaller and so you can keep it on your stick or finger a much longer time. It also let you a kind a tolerance in the orientation of your string. If your diabolo is turn by some degree compared to the string, it will not tuch the string with the parabolic parts, so it won't be much affected. But thats the very bad point of this kind of axis : you can't change the orientation of the diabolo easily. And re-orientation is really needed for 2 ou 3 diabolos, therefore, it's not recommended to buy large axle for 2 or 3 diabolos jugglers. In Henry's catalog, the "large axle" is named "twist". In Babache, it's "evolution 1". Evolution 1 will add 10g to your diabolo. Ultra light axleCircus, the Henry's diabolo, is usually said to be to heavy. So they propose you to put a "ultra light" axle, which lower by 40g the total weight of the circus. But this axle material slip better than the previous one, and that a very good point : this make less knot for some tricks when you wrap your diabolo. It sounds slightly smoother when you put it on the stick. The "allround"The allround is also for the Circus. I recommend it, because it has the advantage of the large axle for fingers & stick tricks, but is also quite nice for (small) orientation. The material is the same as for "ultra light", you just add some 12g compared to "ultralight". The "giant"Sorry, I didn't try this one. I would thing that it is heavier, but has the same good point that the allround. Perhap's better guidance for orientation. Bearings axleI tried a "super spin" diabolo which had a bearing inside the axle. It exist also by "spintastic". There diabolo is named "Jumbo Spinabolo". Theorically, you accellerate it faster, and it slows down very slowly. But the first thing you will see is that you have less control on it. The "lift" is not possible with that thing, but it is also not possible to send the diabolo higher when you have 2 diabolos with just the left hand... kit "weight"This is not really a axle, it is a "accessoirie" for the Babache diabolo, the Finess, which allows you to add some weight to your diabolo. If you are really used to the Circus, you will be happy with that, but I don't recommend it. Light is good. And this does not add much inertia momentum, so your diabolo is not more stable. Just heavier :( This kit is named "evolution 3", and there are 12 or 20 g set.
